Stephens County Reading Association, SCRA, is an organization that recognizes
the role that literacy plays in the lives of the citizens in Stephens County.
The purpose of this organization is to
encourage the study of reading at all educational levels
establish a network to exchange reading ideas, experiences, and research findings
promote an interest in and appreciation of quality literature
assist in the improvement of teacher education in Stephens County
promote the integration of reading across the curriculum
stimulate and promote research in the processes and integration of reading, writing, listening, speaking, and thinking
sponsor workshops and other meetings which implement the purposes of SCRA
inform and influence decision makers who impact literacy development in Stephens County
establish and strengthen alliances with a wide range of organizations which share an interest in literacy.
support the Oklahoma Reading Association and the International Reading Association
Membership in SCRA is open to all persons engaged in the teaching or supervision of reading at any school level, parents, and all others interested in the purposes which SCRA supports. Membership dues are ten dollars a year and may be paid to any officer. SCRA is a local council of the Oklahoma Reading Association whose parent association is the International Reading Association. Membership in ORA (student $5 and $20 basic) and IRA (student $24 and $39 basic) is also encouraged.
